A human woman, a tail-sporting alien, and a deadly hurricane… of course they’re going to hook up! Or rather, they did hook up. But that was then. This is now.

As a marine biologist, Maris Xayer is used to observing all types of marine life, but she never imagined she’d come face to tail with an Ujal. In the middle of a hurricane, Maris and Vados came together—ahem—and then he disappeared. She figured it was a one-storm stand with an Ujal and moved on. Except Vados hadn’t really gone anywhere and now the sexy as sin, red-skinned Ujal is back. For her.

Vados was not a weakling to pine after a female. He was Vados fa Kotan, High Guard of Tave fa V’yl, Crown Prince of Ujal. His loyalty and dedication belonged to one person and one person only—his ruler, his friend.

And yet…

And yet he found himself constantly looking east, toward Florida’s coast, toward… Maris. As he stared through the alien waters, he remembered the taste of her skin, the feel of her hair on his scales, and the way her pupils grew as arousal took hold. The way she screamed his name when—

“Vados,” Tave snapped at him, and Vados immediately swung his attention back to the prince. The male’s scales were bright blue, his dark blue hair floating in the Gulf’s cool waters.

His agreement was immediate. “Yes, sire.”

Tave sighed. “Do you know what you have just agreed to?”

“Of course, sire.” He glanced at his friend and fellow guard Niax. The male would fill him in later.

“So you have no objections to providing protection to a human doctor?”

Vados pressed his lips together and kept his face stoic, swallowing the groan that formed in his chest. It wasn’t the fact that he would have to provide protection. It was his calling after all. But, guarding a human meant hours upon hours with two feet on land. He was at home in the seas, his bright red scales on display, and his tail flicking him from place to place. Walking was so slow.

“Of course not, sire.” His response was once again whip-fast.

A smile lurked on his prince’s lips, which told Vados the male knew he spoke an untruth. “Excellent. Transportation is already waiting at UST for you both. You’re dismissed.”

UST—Ujal Station Tau—was the land-bound complement to their underwater city, Tau. When they’d come to the planet decades ago, the Ujal established cities within the oceans all around the world. Vados had visited them all with the prince, but he had to admit that Tau was his favorite.

Because of my nearness to Maris.

However, he would not be a soft male and say the words aloud.

Vados frowned. “Now, sire? It is nearing midnight.”

“Now. There is no security in place at this moment, it had been refused until now, but recent events have altered certain decisions.” Tave’s tone was grim, his expression one of murderous rage.

In hindsight, Rina realized she probably should have paid more attention to the letters from the Population Ministry. In her defense, the agency sent flyers to all unmated females under the age of forty regularly. Not to mention, she always got a crapton of junk mail. Crap. Ton.

So, when more and more showed up, she… recycled more and more. She was environmentally conscious that way. Plus, recycling was the law. But she would have done it anyway.

Except the letters… kept coming, she kept recycling, and her happy-ish little life continued as always.

Until The Knock.

Rina lived in one of the few true homes remaining along the coast of Tampa. Her parents never sold their small plot of land by the sea as so many others had. When they’d wanted to relocate to one of those high rises, they signed it over to her. She was bracketed by pristine, high-tech sky-high condominiums, with amazing security and… her house actually had a door. A wooden one. There were no bells or cameras to check for visitors. Nope, Rina was a windows and knocking kind of gal.

She ran her fingers through her hair, allowing the water—real water, not that sonic shower stuff—to rinse away the enviro-friendly shampoo she loved. She had exactly twenty minutes to finish her shower, toss on some clothes and makeup, and then dash out the door for work. At some point, she’d snag some sea toast—toasted seaweed, yum—to keep her going until lunch.

Same schedule, different day.

Rhal fa Adar was a liar, an asshole, and the sexiest man—Ujal—Cara had ever seen. Too bad the sexy couldn’t make up for the lying asshole tendencies. In that way, Ujal males were no different than humans. Oh, Rhal had gone on and on about integrity and honor and strength and everything that made high guards—warriors closest to the prince—so damn special.

She wondered where lying fit in with the integrity. Did they live side by side in his head or did they tag team? Did they alternate days? Monday, Wednesday, and Friday were designated integrity days? Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday he got to be a liar? They alternated Sundays?

The more she thought about it, the angrier she got. And the angrier she got, the more her eyes burned with tears. And the more her eyes burned with tears, the angrier she got until she was blindly running down the halls of UST—Ujal Station Tau. They were empty at this time, the employees either gathered around televisions to watch the press conference with Prince Tave and Principessa Rina or were catching it at home.

A press conference she’d attended for a few minutes. She’d snuck in behind a camera crew, pretending to be part of the group.

“I have a question?” She waited for Rina’s nod. “What about children? Are previously human Ujal mates capable of carrying hatchlings?”

Cara would have asked Rina privately, would have waited until her best friend had time for a cup of coffee or something, but then things had been so whip-fast for Rina and Tave. From meet to mate in what seemed like a tornado. And then Rina had been hauled to Tau for a week before she reappeared for the press conference to discuss human-Ujal matings. Changes. The Population Ministry. The Intergalactic Mating Agency. All of it.

Then problems arise—her daughter is ill, and a sexy, demanding, overwhelming, purple-scaled Ujal is determined to do whatever he can to save Tabitha. When they realize Tabby isn’t ill, she’s Ujal, plenty of people don’t want Vanessa raising her newly tail-sporting alien daughter. Erun fa Arex earned his position through blood, sweat, and scales with a trident as his constant companion. On Earth, he is the captain of the principessa’s elite guard, a worthy Ujal warrior matched by few. On Ujal, he grew up as a child slave forced to fight for sport and others’ pleasure. Fighting left physical and mental scars while the master’s growth-hormone injections left him unable to father younglings.

Erun never considered mating and having a family of his own until he meets Vanessa and Tabitha. Now he realizes everything he rejected—a mate and family—is exactly what he desires. And he will fight to keep them… to the death

Vanessa hadn’t recovered from the loss of her husband only to have her daughter die. She wanted the privilege of murdering the little pain in the butt for herself.

All it’d taken was one second, one quick glance at a passing male, a quickly whispered question because she was lost, and Tabby was off like a shot. The toddler ran as fast as her little legs could carry her and… right into the path of oncoming traffic. Her baby was going to be run down by a hovocar. Or, God save her, a hovobus.

Adrenaline flooded her body, her gaze focusing intently on her rapidly retreating child. Panic overcame her, blanketing her in a wave of fear that nearly sent her to her knees. Her heart pulsed a rapid rhythm that stole the air from her lungs. She ran as hard as she could, legs pumping. One shoe flew from her foot and the other soon followed but she didn’t care. Not when her last reason for living was so close to death.

“Tabby!” Nessa ignored the Ujal male who’d paused to answer her question and raced toward the street. She bolted, uncaring who she pushed out of the way as she made her mad dash toward her giggling child. “Tabitha!”

Tabby glanced at her, those legs still pumping, and she giggled. “Catch!”

No.” Now wasn’t the time to play catch. Any time other than now would be great. She pushed hard, fought for air and demanded her body give up whatever strength it had left. Just let her get there. Just let her— A sob escaped her throat, the feet separating her from her child seeming like a great chasm.

A horn honked, the sound booming a symphony in her ears. A warning. A death toll that told her she was moments from losing what little joy she had in her life. “Tabby…”

The holidays are a time of love, joy, and… meeting a new alien species?

Prince of the Ujal, Tave fa V’yl-Zeret, will do anything to make his mate happy. Even if that means celebrating a holiday he does not understand. (Tave does not care what human lore states, a single human could not circle the globe and deliver toys to every child.)

This year’s biggest concern isn’t whether he purchased enough toys for his youngling, but the alien battleship that enters Earth’s orbit.

Are they friend? Or foe? Will Tave’s family and friends live to see Christmas morning? Or will they all perish on Christmas Eve? For there is a humbug willing to go to any lengths to stop peace talks. Lengths that include kidnapping royalty and… assassination.

Tave woke to sensuous kisses and delicious caresses from his mate’s small hands. She stroked his chest, her soft hair brushing his skin as she explored him. Those delicate fingers danced down his abdomen and his scales trembled just beneath the surface, threatening to appear. Yes, she wrenched that much control from his grasp.

Rina did not pause in her attentions, continuing south until she reached his shaft. It did not take him long to catch up with her passion and he hardened within moments of that first touch. Then she tormented him. She stroked him from base to tip, drawing his need forward until he focused entirely on her touch, on her hand barely encompassing his length. Tingles of pleasure shot through him when she rubbed her thumb along the tip of his shaft.

He groaned and flexed his hips, reveling in the slide of his cock through the circle of her fingers. She used his pre-cum for lubricant, making each new thrust easier than the last. The scent of his desire entwined with hers. And her sweet musk… It tangled with the crisp salty air, filling his lungs with two things he loved most—his mate and the sea.

“Rina,” he murmured and found he could not remain still any longer. He reached for her, teasing her as she tempted him. Tave traced the curved lines of her form, palm skimming her waist and flare of her hips. Her skin was silken smooth, more rounded after her pregnancy with their youngling, Theresa, and he loved her added curves.

She was lush and delicious, her body begging for his hands, his mouth. She had other marks from her time carrying Theresa—what she called stretch marks—but he saw them as battle scars. Proof she fought hard to carry their daughter.

It made him love her all the more.
